OUR COMPETITION - DON'T BE FOOLED BY THEM...
Verify the contractor has a valid license at the CSLB website...
Don't believe other contractor's false claims of "factory direct - no installation fee, it's true"... you can verify with the factory, he doesn't own it or work there and after he baits you on the ad he will tell you he is not the factory also...
Don't believe other contractor's false claims you don't need a building permit or "it's optional" - permits are always required and protect you by making sure the work passes inspections...
Verify the contractor has valid Worker's Compensation insurance. If they are claiming "exempt - no employees" then they should not have anyone else working on your job site unless it is a valid licensed subcontractor. It is very rare when Alumawood patio covers are built by one person only, but most of our competitions claim "no employees - Worker's Compensation exempt" but will likely have employees on your job...
Verify the contractor has a valid business license for their business location as well as your location. The C.S.L.B and all of the local cities require this and that permits are pulled...
Some contractors operate under a different name than the name they are licensed under...verify with the C.S.L.B. web site that will show what name they are "authorized" to use, then check the BBB very carefully for phone numbers and prior business names so you get the complete picture...
If the contractor claims they will provide references, but they never do, recognize there may be a reason for this...
Don't be fooled by licensed or unlicensed contractors making false claims. We provide you with a lot of factual information that can be verified We don't need to lie to you to make a sale. Several contractors are claiming you are buying "factory direct - no installation fee" and yet their prices are the same or close to ours as they do include an installation fee. One of these guys has 6 manufacturer's on the website, while making a false claim to be "factory direct." If he was in fact the owner of 6 different manufacturers factories, why would he be selling the patio covers to you? All of the manufacturers sell only to licensed contractors and never direct to the homeowner. All contractors that purchase the product, purchase direct from the "factory" or manufacturer. You may contact the manufacturers directly and they will verify that this is true. We can provide phone numbers or you can find them yourself online. Why would someone claim to be factory direct when they are not? We have yet to come up with an answer for that.
Many contractors out there are saying a building permit is optional. BUILDING PERMITS ARE ALWAYS REQUIRED FOR ALUMAWOOD PATIO COVERS AND ARE NEVER OPTIONAL. Beware of any contractor that states it is optional. They likely prefer to not have a permit and they will therefore not be held accountable for building your project to building codes and passing inspections. Additionally, they may be operating without a valid contractor's license or city business license and they may likely have court ordered debt collections or outstanding warrants preventing them from obtaining these licenses. When your home is being appraised, a valid permit ensures that the improvement will be counted in your appraised value. Additionally, if a situation arises with the home improvement you purchased that you need to fall back on your homeowner's insurance, claims involving non-permitted work are often denied. Everyday, all over Southern California, we see evidence of people who allowed a contractor to build something for them without a permit to possibly save a few dollars. It is obvious when these structures are not to engineering and/or building and safety codes. Don't risk wasting thousands of dollars you will spend on improving your home - just to save a few hundred dollars on a building permit.
We are the exception to the rule as far as contractors go. We pride ourselves on offering excellent service on all jobs from start to finish. We work primarily on a referral basis, so we must offer good service as well as a great product. Once we start a job, we always finish it in a timely manner. Depending on the size and complexity of the project, most of our covers are usually completed within one to three days of starting construction.
Once we have your written Homeowner's Association (HOA) approval where needed or the go ahead from you, we expedite all the paperwork, pull the building permit and order the materials and pt and begin your job in a timely manner. We believe you will be so happy with our product and service that you will want to recommend us too.
